The client’s brief was to bring the nineteenth century classic New Zealand Villa into the twenty first century with modern open planned living and the latest products and materials. Situated at the time on a newly subdivided section, the home was designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding suburban environment.

The result was a two-storey home, designed to appear as a single level from the road frontage, with classic villa-style frontage features, with high pitched roofs, large wrap around verandas, double hung windows, and ornate trim and moldings. The design sympathetically incorporated modern touches, such as aluminium double-glazed windows, recessed windows and a flat roof section that adds a contemporary twist to the classic design.

Throughout the home, the interior design is inspired by the traditional New Zealand Villa, with a high ceilings, dado panels, hardwood flooring, neutral color palette, and ornate moldings and trims.

The home itself boasts an open planned living opening out towards the forest and flows onto the back verandah and lawn. In addition to this, the ground floor includes a formal living room, two bedrooms, bathrooms and a large garage. Upstairs, the master suite is particularly impressive, with views out towards Riverhead Forest. Inside there are two large walk-in-wardrobes, a luxurious bathroom, and a private study. Storage is cleverly hidden in the roof voids on the top floor with easy access to roof voids above garage.
